The fourth LEAP conference, sponsored by the Wellcome Trust Our Planet Our Health programme, will take place on the 6th December 2021. This year we hope to have a virtual and in-person event, at the Mathematical Institute in Oxford. Building on the success of previous years we will continue to bring together researchers working on multiple aspects of meat and dairy production and consumption to consider its effects on population health, the economy, society and the environment.

This year we have Judith Batchelar OBE, Director, Sainsbury’s Brand, Sainsbury’s and Prof Mario Herrero, Chief Research Scientist of Agriculture and Food, CSIRO as our plenary speakers.

Call for papers now open

All abstracts should describe research on some aspect of meat or dairy (or substitutes) (see the LEAP website for more information). We are keen for researchers at all levels to participate, and especially welcome PhD students and Post-Docs.

There will be opportunities for both short oral presentations (10 minutes, plus 5 minutes Q&A) and posters (A1/A0 portrait format). If the total number of abstracts received requesting oral presentations exceeds the space available we will offer a poster slot as an alternative.

Please send the following information as a Word document to leap@oxfordmartin.ox.ac.uk by 6th September 2021:

  1. Name and Affiliation (if any) of all authors, highlighting the corresponding author
  2. Email contact
  3. Title of paper
  4. Brief Abstract (250-300 words)
  5. Preference for oral or poster presentation

LEAP21 will include two keynote lectures, seminars as well as oral and poster abstract sessions. Topics will include natural and social science research on environmental sustainability, diets and health, dietary change, meat substitutes and rural livelihoods.

Further details will be released in due course

The virtual element of the conference will be hosted by Whova.
